THE MOON

             As twilight approaches
I silently climb the darkening skies
And when the Earth goes to bed
            I shall shine.
I’m not cruel like the Sun
You look at me and your eyes don’t run.
            I’m not selfish, like you
When I light your darkest nights
            I don’t complain
            Because I stay awake
            Every time you sleep.
No, I’m not weak.
The Earth is like my child
I watch upon her all night.

But it is not easy at all
            To do it all alone.
I have been swimming across the sky
            Looking for a friend
            Since the beginning of time.
But there’s no one out there
            To help me sometime
And you people, you don’t care
You have each other every time, anywhere.
But the wolves, they’re the only ones
Who talk to me, and sing..
And that’s when I feel unique.
